Children love to play in the water. There is no end to their excitement when they know that they are going to travel by boat. I, too was excited when I came to know that I would be travelling in a boat. I had never travelled in a boat.

Our family had gone to Mahableshwar for a short holiday. I overheard my father saying that we were going to hire a boat for the whole day. I was so excited. I behaved my best. As decided we were given a boat along with a boatman in case we had some trouble. The boat was not a huge one but spacious enough for our family. My father started rowing the boat with the help of the oars. I watched him and wanted to row the boat too. My father was a little scared when I told him what I wanted.

He told me it was not easy. I was unhappy and sat quietly. The boatman suggested to my father to allow me to row the boat. He promised my father that nothing scary would happen. My father reluctantly agreed. I took the oars in my hands and began rowing the boat. The boatman was guiding me all the time. I rowed the boat for some time and then handed the oars to my father. Rowing is fun but also difficult.

I felt great to have rowed the boat. We ate and had a lot of fun on the boat. I also threw bread crumbs into the water. Through the clear water, I could see fishes eat them up quickly. How the day passed was a mystery to me. I can truly say that I enjoyed the boat ride. Travelling by boat was a wonderful experience.

Summary :

The legend of Marathon is an inspiring story of a young man of twenty-two, Pheidippides. There was a battle between the Persians and the Athenians but the former refused to accept defeat. They saw that the entire army of Athens was far away from their city with only aged people, women and children back home at Athens. The Persians made a plan to take the sea route and reach and capture Athens before Athenians returned to the city to celebrate.

Luckily the Athenian Generals, being good strategists could foresee this situation. The message about their victory delivered before the Persians reached Athens. Pheidippides, the fastest runner who could travel faster than the Persian ships was entrusted the responsibility. A true patriot, he accepted it happily. That he had already completed a run of more than two hundred kilometres, just the day before, when he had been to the neighbouring kingdom of Sparta did not deter him from the task given to him.

He did his best; braving all odds and difficulties he tirelessly kept running. He was weak with hunger and thirst, his heart was beating faster but he continued the mission of reaching the city. He informed the people of Athens that they had won and that their army would be there soon. But Alas! After doing the duty assigned to him he collapsed. He had sacrificed his life in service to Athens, thus setting an example of selflessness and courage, patriotism and devotion to one’s motherland.

His willingness to do anything for his state and his historic run from Marathon to Athens is unforgettable. The sporting event of the Marathon which we witness in Olympic Games was started in Greece in the memory of this great young man Pheidippides.

Well it laid a golden egg each day. Ken was happy and content at first but greed got the better of him. He imagined how wonderful it would be to get all the golden eggs from within the goose at one go.

He decided to kill the bird. For a moment he did not stop to think of all the good fortune the good goose had brought him.

There was no sense of gratitude left in him without any pity, the wicked farmer cut the goose open. Kenwas disappointed when he realized that its magical goose was just like any other goose, there were no golden eggs within. If only someone had told him, what the wise always say: ‘Greed leads to grief’.

2. An ideal teacher. Devraya was a great teacher. He taught his pupils how to make beautiful statues. At the time when this incident took place the great preceptor Devraya had many students learning under him. Among them was Gopal.

Devraya assigned the task of sculpting a beautiful statue to Gopal. Gopal had done a beautiful job but Devaraya pointed out that the nose was not perfect. Devraya insisted that he worked on it till perfection was achieved.

After her step-mother and step-sisters had left for the party, Cinderella sat crying. Suddenly a fairy appeared and asked her why she was sad. When she told the fairy the reason, the fairy decided to help her. She moved her magic wand and Cinderella was transformed into a beautiful looking lady.

Using her magic wand, she changed a pumpkin into a golden carriage, two mice into horses, a rat into a coachman and two wizards into footmen. The fairy warned Cinderella that she could go to the palace and enjoy the party but should return home before the clock struck twelve. The fairy told her that as the clock strikes twelve, the magic would go off and everything would change back to what they were. Cinderella attended the party and was the most beautiful girl out there.

The prince danced only with her throughout. The step-sisters were very jealous. They could not recognize Cinderella Cinderella remembered what the fairy had said and left the hall before twelve. She promised the prince that she would be at the party the next day too. When the step sisters returned home all they could talk was about the beautiful lady at the party. The next evening Cinderella was present at the party looking as lovely as ever.

Summary :

The story ‘Weeds in the Garden’, tries to bring out the importance of correcting children and imbibing good habits at the right time. Anshuman in this story develops bad habits. His parents try their best to advise him to get out of it but in vain. His parents get a chance to correct him when they go to stay on his grandfather’s farm.

While taking a walk on the farm, Anshuman’s father points out to the weeds growing between the plants. He explains to Anshuman how these weeds are harmful to the plants on the farm. He tells him that if the weeds are not pulled out at the right time its roots would grow deeper into the soil and thus destroy the plants.

Yes, I have eaten strawberries directly, after plucking it from the strawberry bush. We had gone to Mahableshwar and were staying at a friend’s place where they had strawberry farms. We were invited to the farm and the sight of the strawberries was so beautiful. We were told to pluck as many strawberries as we wanted. All of us started plucking strawberries and as we were plucking, we were also popping a few into our mouth. It was a wonderful experience eating the fruit directly from the tree.
